Copper Cannon Distillery

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

What do you get when two cousins from Louisiana go on a distillery tour in Ireland? Why, Copper Cannon in Chesterfield, of course!

Blake Amacker and Chris Arnold co-founded the distillery after a life-changing trip to Ireland. Chris lives in TX with his family, while Blake resides in NH with his fiancé Toni and his dog Cannon.

There is so much to love about this business. Every decision was made with intentionality from the product, to the building itself, to the presence in the Chesterfield community.

Hand-crafted Clear Rum

First, the spirits

Perhaps the most well known of their award-winning products is described on their website as follows: "Copper Cannon's Hand-Crafted Barrel Aged Rum is made from a molasses based fermentation. It is double distilled and carbon filtered. It is aged in new charred oak barrels at 120 proof for a minimum of 1 year. It tastes similar to whiskey with the sweetness of rum. It has notes of vanilla and smoke. It is a great stand alone drink neat or on ice." The maple version of this product is also fantastic and quite well-known.

They have many unique products including Pumpkin Spiced Rum and Hand-Crafted Potato Vodka, which is made from locally sourced potatoes.

The quality of their product is apparent. They have five star ratings across the board and recently received the New York International Spirits Competition NH Distillery of the year award.

The Copper Cannon Barn

The facility

One of the most interesting parts of the Copper Cannon story is the building itself. The post & beam frame comes from a 150 year old medical bottling company previously located at the corner of Emerald Street. A portion of their equipment was recycled from Bardwell Farm and Common Wealth Dairy Farm.

Tastings

Community

Blake says about the business, "We take pride in providing quality craft spirits to the local community. We love giving tours and tastings and educating customers on our process and Copper Cannon's journey to our current state."

Further, Blake works hard to employe local individuals and has a strong desire to invest in the Chesterfield community. I asked one of his employees, Joe Martino, about what it was like working for Blake. He said, "Blake is a great guy to work for. He taught me a lot in a quick amount of time and has a lot of trust in me..." He went on to say that he has been included in every step of the process for starting a fermentation, checking the progress, distillation and filtering. He ended with, "Copper Cannon is a must stop for rum/whiskey enthusiasts."

Don't take our word for it though, go try their products for yourselves!
